Membership
How do I join & what is
the membership fee?
PGFA is looking for partners, not members. Therefore, joining has
been made simple enough, it’s free and you can join by clicking
on this link www.pgfa.org/join.
The associations’ only requirement is that you subscribe
to the charter and shall strive at every opportunity to promote
the same as a partner, please use this link to tell your friends
and family to help in this noble cause http://www.pgfa.org/tell_a_friend.asp.
The benefits, as we’re sure you already know, are numerous.
But remember, you are becoming a partner in our charter, not just
a member. TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE.
Why is it free?
Partners/Members, whichever one you consider yourself to be, are
required by the charter to propagate and implement the objectives
of PGFA. The cost of joining PGFA is your time and effort, not your
money.
The reasons are simple enough:
- The PGFA was initially setup by a group of professionals, who
already have a day job, they don’t need the money.
- Our cause if one that can only be achieved if one truly believes
in it, not if one buys his way into it.
- All activities of the club are financed by contributions made
by those who see fit.
- Most importantly, our fishing is too valuable to put a price
tag on it!!

New to Fishing
I am new to Sport Fishing, how can I learn about it?
The simple answer is practice, practice and some more practice.
The more complex answer, however, is that one can never truly learn
everything about sport fishing, and therein lies the beauty of this
sport. Masters have written books about the sport only to revise
them a few years later; others have given lectures and proven themselves
wrong weeks later.
What PGFA can help with, however, is sharing of experience already
gained by our members. Our information is all based on practical
experience, with rod and reel in hand. We’ll give you the
head-start and direction required to set you off on the right path.
What you do post that is up to you.
You can view out Archives that will give you a host of relevant
information, or you can post a question on the “Ask
the Guru’s” section, and a person with knowledge
about the query will respond to you within a day or two. Lastly
you can post the same question on the forum,
and members from all walks of life will be more than happy to share
their experiences.
Like I said before, nobody knows everything there is to know about
this sport, but we at PGFA help in getting heads together to give
very important direction to your quest for success.

What are popular fishing destinations?
A very subjective question based on where you are located and what
specie you with to target. See the links below on specie specific
information.
Although a lot depends on weather conditions, the links below highlights
tentative seasons for the more commonly fished for saltwater, freshwater
species.

Where can I purchase tackle from, and how much should I budget for
the same?
There are three main tackle shops in Karachi namely:
Agha's Sportfishing
Mr. Aziz Agha
451/C/2, Allama Iqbal Road, P.E.C.H. Society,
Karachi 75400, Pakistan.
Phone: (92-21) 4554835 - 4386892 - 4550491
Fax : (92-21) 4386892
Mahigeer Water Sport
Mr. Abdul Rehman
Shop # 7, Nagina Centre, 5 MISC Areas, M. A. Jinnah Road, Kemari,
Karachi
Phone: 2851865-6.
Fitness Factory
Mr. Shoaib
Shop # 3, Plot 6C, 4th Zamzama Commercial Lane, and Phase V, Defense,
Karachi Phone: 021-5878864.
Collectively, these shops have a wide array of popular reels, rods,
terminal tackle and lures. No one shop claims to have everything,
but most will be able to arrange whatever you need given time. You’ll
even be able to get great advice on set-ups and the successful lure
patterns.
A cost, like buying absolutely anything else, depends on the quality
you need and the purpose you need the tackle for. For example, a
casting setup can cost anywhere from Rs. 800 (will probably not
last for more than two casts!!) to an excess of Rs. 25,000. Generally
speaking, I use a setup worth Rs. 5,000/-, works for a season, and
the cost allows me to replaced by the next season. You need to find
your comfort level.
A solid word of advice for high value purchases would be to choose
something at the tackle shops and get reviews on the forum from
the members before buying it. Collectively, we’ve used it
all, suffered on some accounts and benefited on others, but overall
will be fairly unbiased in helping you make your choice.

Is the sea safe?
Most of the members on the site have been doing it for decades.
If you take some basic precautions, there is no reason for you not
to be able to enjoy a safe day out on the sea during the season.
Precautions include, but are not limited to, checking the weather,
carrying life jackets (available at all the above-mentioned tackle
shops) and ensuring you go out with a reputable captain (a number
are mentioned on this site, or you could ask people on the forum).

Fishing in Pakistan
What game fish species are available in Pakistan?
Pakistan
is probably one of the richest countries in terms of game-fish,
we have it all, from Marlins to trout. The beauty of Game Fishing
in Pakistan is that their equivalents to Australia and New Zealand
some 100 years ago, most of the resources have not been fully explored.
The PGFA team has compiled a detailed list, in the form of a Seasonal
Chart, covering all the popular/common species and highlighting
the best time to target each fish. A note of caution though, as
mentioned earlier, Pakistan’s game fishing is at a very nascent
stage, new species are caught every year, as anglers employ new
methods and alter old ones. So feel free to participate in making
this list more through than it already is!!
In freshwater, we have the famed Mahseer and trout, in addition
to Snake Heads and various carp species. The exact list is fairly
elaborate, but we’re fairly certain that all year round you
can find some of the best fighting freshwater fish at locations
all over Pakistan. Details can be found on the Species list of the
website.
List of Game fishes available in Pakistan can be seen at

Are there any reputable Fishing Charters/ Guides in Pakistan?
In Pakistan we’ve got ample resources to ensure that your
trip, where ever you want to go, is an enjoyable one. Needless to
say, different Charter services/guides offer different levels of
luxury, and luxury can be bought for a price.
Although PGFA does not run its own charter service, you can find
some details on Guides/Charters used by our members on the “Captains
& Guides List”.
If all else fails, get on the forum, I’m sure many a member
will be willing to take you along on a trip or guide you to the
Charter service best suited to your needs.
Do you arrange fishing trips?
Unfortunately, we do not arrange fishing trips. It’s a direct
function of not having the time to do justice to the responsibility.
However, like we mentioned above, try the forum. We’re sure
there are plenty of members who’ll be in a position to aid
you in arranging trips until you find your own bearings or be happy
to accompany you on your trips as long as you share the fishing!!!
What are the popular fishing destinations in Pakistan?
Check out the destinations and
maps section of the PGFA website. It’s a fairly comprehensive
listing of all the fishing destinations we know of to-date.
The popularity of each destination is a lot to do with accessibility
and what type of fishing you wish to pursue. Best solution is to
browse through the Fishing Reports, and see which destination suits
you best.
Don’t forget to check back regularly though. Both links are
updated regularly, with more off the beaten track destinations and
new reports to keep you updated on each locations current status.

Before a Fishing Trip
Fishing Check List?
Browse through the following checklist. It covers most of the essentials.
Life Jackets are a must in all situations, accidents don’t
announce themselves!!
How can I find the fishing hotspots?
Check out our latest Fishing
Reports. They highlight some of the recent trips of our members,
including the action at each destination. Chances are they’ll
be your most accurate guide to the current fishing action.
Another solid piece of advice is to check with the local tackle
shops, they always have up to date information also. Captains and
Guides can also be a good source of information, but caution needs
to be exercised and some will tend to over exaggerate the report
in order to ensure a booking.
Are there any reliable forecasts for weather?
If it were reliable, it wouldn’t have been called a forecast.
The truth is that all weather forecasts are the best “guestimates”
at any given point of time.
However, our website does have links to weather updates and forecasts
from sources which have, over time, proven themselves more reliable
than others.
Regardless, please excise due caution, and be practical when assessing
the weather. After all no fish is worth risking your life for.

What are the rescue numbers in case of emergency?
You can find important numbers here on your website. Keep them
handy, and on the speed-dial of your satellite phone/mobile phone.
We are trying to acquire VHF contact details also, and shall update
them as the information becomes available.
The safest way, however, is to always be within eyesight of another
boat, even if they are not from your own party.
